Cosmetics retailer Lush opens its first packaging-free store in the UK

  • Lush has a robust base to work from and doing away with plastic is something that a lot of its consumers would be interested in anyway given the type of retailer it is

The United Kingdom-based cosmetics retailer Lush has recently announced that it plans to inaugurate the first ‘Naked’ store in the nation inspired by the constant public outrage over plastic pollution. As per trusted sources, the cosmetics brand first opened ‘Naked’ outlets, which were entirely void of plastic packaging, in Berlin and Milan in 2018.

Following on from their success, the firm had resolved to bring the concept over to the UK in an effort to show consumers how initiating small changes can have a positive impact on the environment.

Reportedly, the ‘Naked’ store would feature a range of classic cosmetic products along the likes of solid soap bars and an assortment of innovative new skincare products, none of which have been encased in plastic.

Associate Analyst at GlobalData Retail, Emily Salter was reportedly quoted saying that Lush is recognizing the growing demand and they are the first mass market retailer to open a packaging-free store. The retailer has always been applauded for its strong ethical stance and it would be easier for Lush to get its customers on board with the idea of plastic-free shops, Salter further added.

Reportedly, Lush has a robust base to work from and doing away with plastic is something that a lot of its consumers would be interested in anyway given the type of retailer it is. Already against animal testing and 100 percent vegetarian, these packaging-free outlets are another route for the cosmetics retailers to add to their ethical credentials.
